The New Mercedes AMG GT Revealed
Mercedes have just announced the new 2015 AMG GT, moving the AMG sports car brand into the top-class sports car segment. It’s the second sports car which has been entirely designed in-house by Mercedes-AMG.
Engine
The Mercedes AMG GT comes with a brand new turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine. The chic sports car will come in two models; the GT and the GT S. The GT will come with a 456bhp version of the engine, whereas the GT S will have a super powerful 503bhp version.
Speed
The GT S can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, reaching an impressive top speed of 310 km/h.
Design
The Mercedes AMG GT is very similar to the now discontinued SLS. It has been designed using aluminium lightweight construction and is based around the same type of aluminium spaceframe chassis as the SLS. As a result, the GT S weighs 1,645kg. The car features a long, low bonnet and a rear-set cockpit. The body is made from steel, alloy and magnesium.
Interior
Inside the new Mercedes AMG there are two leather sports seats, an 8.4-inch touchscreen above the centre console and COMAND infotainment system controls. Seat heating, hazard lights and the extendable spoiler are controlled by buttons in the roof.
Other features
The car comes with a seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, and although there are no rear seats, comes with a 350-litre boot.
Release
The Mercedes AMG GT is set to be officially revealed at the Paris Motor Show. It will go on sale in early 2015, with first UK deliveries expected in April.
Price
It is expected that the sports car will go on sale for prices around £110,000 for the GT and £120,000 for the GT S.
This car has been able to combine fast, powerful racing performance with everyday efficiency, practicality and style, and looks set to give its competition a run for their money.
